Tembelani Safaris plans and books safaris. To do that we need some personal information about you and the people you travel with. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. We follow the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and, where it applies to you, the GDPR.
What we collect
- Names, email addresses and phone numbers.
- Travel details: dates, where you want to go, room preferences, dietary needs and anything you tell us about mobility or health that a lodge needs to know.
- Passport details and dates of birth, when a lodge, airline or park requires them.
- Payment records. Card payments are handled by PayFast. We never see or store your card number.
- Messages you send us through your proposal page or by email.
- Basic usage data on this site, such as pages viewed, collected without cookies through Vercel Analytics.
Why we use it
- To prepare your proposal and book lodges, flights, transfers and activities.
- To take payments and send you confirmations and travel documents.
- To keep you safe on the trip, for example passing dietary or medical needs to the lodge.
- To meet legal and tax record keeping duties.
We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only the suppliers who need it to deliver your trip: lodges, camps, airlines, transfer companies, guides and park authorities. Some are outside South Africa. We also use service providers to run this system: Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email) and PayFast (payments). They process data on our instructions.
How long we keep it
We keep booking and payment records for five years after your trip, as tax law requires. Enquiries that do not become bookings are deleted after two years unless you ask us to keep them.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we no longer need it. You can also object to how we use it. Email us and we will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforeg.org.za.
Keeping it safe
Only our staff can see your details, and each person signs in with their own account. Proposal links are private and not listed on search engines. If you forward your link, anyone with it can see your trip, so treat it like a document.
